This site is filled with the information and tips you need to know about acid reflux and to treat it
effectively so that you feel better.

    What is Acid Reflux?
Acid Reflux, which is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is a digestive
condition characterized by the abnormal flow of gastric acid into the esophagus that can damage
the fragile esophagael lining, among other effects - causes burning pain, nausea, and vomiting for
    millions of people each day.

What Are The Symptoms of Acid Reflux?
The most common symptom is heartburn. 30 to 45 minutes after a heavy meal, heartburn hits.
When excessive amounts of acid reflux into the lower esophagus, the biggest result is heartburn, a
feeling of burning discomfort right behind the heart area of the body, that moves up toward the neck
    and throat.

Beside heartburn, other common symptoms of acid reflux can include:

  • Sore throat and/or sore mouth
  • Change in voice
  • Vomiting and/or nausea
  • Belching and/or hiccuping
  • Coughing and/or labored breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Feeling of having food stuck in the throat
  • Interrupted sleep
  • Taste of acid in mouth

    What are the treatment options?
Acid Reflux is usually treated with a combination of diet and lifestyle changes, over the counter or
prescription medications, and in some cases, surgery. Most doctors start with the least invasive,
least expensive options, such as over-the-counter medicines and changing some troublesome
lifestyle habits, and they work their way to more intensive treatments, such as prescriptions
    medications and surgery.

Antacids are great for rapidly relieving heartburn symptoms. They work directly in the stomach to
decrease the acidity of the reflux liquid irritating the esophagus. They also help neutralize the area
inside the esophagus. When antacids and a foaming agent are combined, they produce a foam
barrier in the stomach, which floats over the contents of the stomach, preventing acid from
    splashing up into the esophagus.
