Tips On Helping Lipstick Stay Where They Should
Your first line of defense against bleeding (lipstick color seeping up into the fine lines above your
upper lip) is using a lip pencil.  If you still have problems or if your lipstick fades too quickly, prep
your lips with a lip fixative or sealer, like Coty’s Stop It! Anti-Feathering Stick for Lips and Max
Factor’s Stay Put Anti-Fade Lip Base.

There are lots of different formulas in different strengths.  Some are “correctors” and look like stick
concealers.  The strongest ones are brush-on liquids.

For chronic bleeding, use a sealer daily.  Or save it for busy days when you won’t have time for
touch-ups or for when you want your lip color to last the night.

Lip color that lasts and lasts and lasts…
“Why does the color fade so fast?”  This beauty battle cry launched a thousand lipsticks (well,
more than a few, at least) formulated to give lip color long-lasting cling.

The bad news: These long-lasting lipsticks often have matte finishes that dry out your lips or
contain ingredients that stain lips, further drying them out.

Fortunately, more cosmetics companies are making more long-lasting lip colors with cream
bases.  The secret: micronizing, or pulverizing, the pigment (the ingredients that give lipstick its
color and coverage) to almost invisible particles, which are then coated with moisturizers.  The
result: rich, creamy color that lasts.  Revlon pioneered long-lasting, nondrying lip color with its
Lipsexxxy lipsticks; Max Factor, Prescriptives and L’Oreal, among others, have followed suit.

If you can’t find a long-lasting cream in a color you like, compromise with a semimatte lipstick.  It’s
a bit longer-lasting than cream and moister than a straight matte.  Or mix a matte lipstick with a
little lip gloss, vitamin E stick or even petroleum jelly to make a matte formula more creamy.

But since nothing, not even your beloved Electric Pink lip color, lasts forever, be realistic about
lipstick’s staying power.  Women apply lipstick in the morning and expect it to last through lunch.
It can last almost that long, but not quite.

If you use a lip pencil in the morning, however, a quick touch-up from the tube might be all you
need to revive your lipstick after your plate of pasta.
