How To Prevent and Treat Eye Pain
    Problem & Cause
    Eyestrain.  Your eyes feel tired and you may have a headache.  If your vision is blurred at close
    distance or your ability to focus on objects at close range has gotten worse, you may need
    eyeglasses or contact lenses.

    Injury.  Your have sudden pain in your eye, decreased vision, or redness after being struck.  Many
    eye injuries can be avoided by taking preventative measures while playing sports or participating
    in other potentially hazardous activities.

    Corneal ulcer or infection.  You have severe eye pain, blurred vision, excess tears, light sensitivity,
    and difficulty keeping your eyelids open without severe pain.

    Self-Care Measures
    Rest your eyes.

    Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes form bright light or ultraviolet rays.

    Use cool or warm compresses (whichever gives the most relief) several times a day for an hour.

    Sleep with your head elevated for a few days.

    Try artificial tears to relieve dryness or irritation.

    Prevention
    Wear protective eye gear while playing sports, doing carpentry, or working in construction.

    Keep your contact lenses clean, don’t leave them in too long, and remove them as soon as your
    feel eye pain.

    Be careful when using anything near your eyes.  Makeup brushes, fingernails, and sprays can
    scratch or irritate the cornea.

    Avoid tanning salons; if you do use the, wear appropriate eye protection.
