How To Avoid Premature Wrinkles
If there’s been one breakthrough in wrinkle research over the years, it’s been this: You have far
more control over wrinkles than anyone over dreamed.  Here’s how to avoid premature wrinkles.

Stub out the butts.  Only the sun damages skin more than smoking.  Heavy smokers are nearly
five times more likely to show premature wrinkling than nonsmokers.  If you smoke and sunbathe,
    you’ll wrinkle even more.

Squinting through cigarette smoke deepens lines around the eyes, and repeated puffing etches
deep lines around the lips and may hollow the cheeks.  Smokers also find themselves with gray
and leathery complexions because their skin doesn’t get enough oxygen – nicotine strangles the
small blood vessels in the face.

If you think you can simply have a face-lift to repair the smoke damage, think again.  Most doctors
won’t perform de-aging procedures like collagen injections, face-lifts or deep peels on smokers.
Smokers bruise more easily than nonsmokers and risk other side effects from surgery that
nonsmokers don’t.  So you’ll most likely have to stop smoking before a dermatologist will treat
    your lines or wrinkles.

Dump the yo-yo dieting.  Gaining and losing the same 20 pounds is tough on your skin as well as
your morale.  Over time, the skin on your face may stretch until it won’t snap back.  The result:
increased sagging.  Maintaining your ideal weight by exercising more and practicing moderation
in how much you eat will not only help keep your skin youthfully firm but also promote a healthy
    glow.

Forget facial aerobics.  No matter what you may have read elsewhere, you can’t grimace your way
to tauter skin.  Facial exercises have long been controversial, but leading medical experts firmly
believe that facial contortions don’t keep wrinkles at bay.  In fact, most of these exercises can
accentuate wrinkles, because they use the very facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

Experts also advise that you stay away from electrical gadgets like facial vacuum cleaners, so-
called facial irons that are warmed up and applied to the face, and any other devices designed to
    manipulate the skin.

You should treat your skin very tenderly and lovingly.  It’s a living thing and replaces itself every 28
days.  If you mess up its cycle, it’s really difficult to get it back in tune.

Don’t be a skin guinea pig.  The best skin-care strategy is “less is more.”  Women tend to do too
much rather than too little to their skin, and the problem isn’t with lipsticks and blushers but skin-
care products.  So don’t be too quick to try exotic skincare products in the hope of staving off
wrinkles; you may end up hurting your skin rather than helping it.
