Home Remedies For Warts A wart is a wily enemy; no method of removal is guaranteed because there’s no way to make sure you’ve killed all the virus within and around the wart, along with the wart itself. And even if you decide to do something about your warts, there are no quick cures. Don’t get discouraged – try these on-your-own remedies. Over-the-counter wart removers. These liquid or pads formulated with salicylic acid may work, especially on small warts, and they’re inexpensive. But these products can take months to dissolve larger warts, if they work at all. Many warts that go away with these removers probably would have gone away on their own. Some of these products might even harm your skin. Liquid wart removers can burn through healthy tissue and leave an open sore that can get infected – all without ever reaching the deep core of the wart. A few cautions: Never use these products on your face or on warts with hair or moles. And if you have poor circulation or diabetes, don’t self-treat your warts at all; you may not be able to feel whether the remover is eating through your skin or causing an infection. Smother your warts. You may be able to wipe out a wart by covering it with tape for about three weeks. You wrap it with multiple layers of duct tape or real cloth adhesive tape for 6½ days at a time, then remove it for half a day and repeat the process. Important! If there’s one thing you shouldn’t do when you have a wart, it’s pick at it. So avoid the temptation to snip, shave, pick at or try to remove any growth yourself, especially if you aren’t sure of what it is. The more you worry warts, the more you encourage them to spread. Nibbling at them is even worse. People who bite their warts can get them on their lips. Besides, it’s gross. |
